Panel 1

Meet the Candidate

Raised in Laurel County, Scotty grew up learning the value of hard work, respect, and character on his grandpa’s cattle and tobacco farm. In his teenage years, he was the President of the Laurel County Youth Leadership Council — leading the largest community service efforts amongst young people in the region. While a senior, U.S. Congressman Hal Rogers appointed Scotty to the SOAR (Shaping Our Appalachian Region) planning and Futures Forum committees, where he played a direct role in attracting jobs, improving road projects, and combating the loss of coal mining in eastern Kentucky. Through high school, he worked at a locally-owned pharmacy and was actively involved in community service.

After graduating with honors from South Laurel High School, Scotty attended the University of Kentucky as a chemistry major. He is now a Doctor of Pharmacy student in the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy, the #6 pharmacy school in the country. He is in several leadership roles at UK and is a member of the Kentucky Pharmacists Association Board of Directors. Scotty’s vision as a future pharmacist is improving healthcare for all Kentuckians, fighting the opioid crisis, and lowering prescription drug costs.

Small businesses have always been the cornerstone of Scotty’s life. Aside from the family farm, Scotty grew up helping with his dad’s on-the-go windshield business. He traveled with his dad to car repair shops across Kentucky, seeing firsthand the struggles small business owners face. He has always worked for small businesses himself and is currently employed at a small, local pharmacy in London.

In the summer of 2015, Scotty worked in U.S. Congressman Hal Rogers’ Washington, DC office. He has been actively involved with his county party association, serving as a caucus volunteer at Kentucky’s first-ever Republican presidential caucus. He has also volunteered on numerous campaigns.

Scotty is a Christian and is a firm believer of upholding strong, Christian values. He lives in London with his high school sweetheart, Beth Collett Reams, and their two dogs. Beth is a Laurel County elementary school teacher. Together, they are members of Dorthae Pentecostal Church in Corbin, KY.
